February 6, 2006
The meeting was called to order by president, Steve Vrable, at
7:10 pm at Hot Z Pizza in Columbia. Board members in present were
Steve Vrable, Mary Frey, Heather Anderson, Pat Hill, Diane Reese,
and Dick Getz. Five additional members were in attendance as
well.
Heather Anderson read the minutes from the last meeting and they
were approved as read.
Pat Hill presented the treasurer's report. We had a starting
balance of $3853.24. Three bills were presented for approval. The
club will pay Dennis Frey $16.95 for repair materials, $1103.42 for
ribbons, and $430.16 in spring taxes. This will leave us with a
remaining balance of $2302.71.
Heather Anderson questioned when the books would need to be
audited. A motion was made and passed to postpone the audit until
the end of 2006.
Membership Committee
Diane Reese reported that she has only received about 15
memberships to date. She presented a nice, detailed letter to mail
out with the new membership cards. The letter welcomes new members
and makes them aware of the benefits of their membership. Diane
suggested that the 2006 membership application should be revised to
request email addresses for quick delivery of minutes and other
announcements.
Grounds
Steve Vrable reported that the clubhouse was vandalized a second
time. The redwood picnic tables were completely destroyed, as well
the second block glass window next to the bathrooms. Mary Frey has
filed a second police report with West Hempfield Township, and this
window will be boarded shut until it can be permanently bricked
off. Thanks to Dennis Frey for completing the first repair job.
In an unrelated incident, the entrance sign has come down during
high winds this winter, and will need to be replaced this
spring.
Spring Clean-up Day has been scheduled for April 2nd at 1 PM. We
will need a ladder to clean the gutters on the clubhouse. Heather
Anderson and Mary Frey moved that the club purchase two replacement
picnic tables by April 21. Mary Frey and Diane Reese made a second
motion to buy a new table and chairs for the upper ring secretary
stand, and an additional picnic table for outside. Both motions
passed unanimously.
Deb Schuch will contact someone to lay new linoleum in the
clubhouse kitchen. She just needs to know the square footage of the
kitchen.
Pat Hill expressed concern over the persistent smell of natural
gas in the clubhouse. She will have the gas company come out and
check the property a second time.
Ways and Means
Terri Vrable will look into having CRC t-shirts either
embroidered or screen-printed and get prices for them for the next
meeting.
Mary Frey presented information on the Hoss's Community
Fundraiser program. We would pass out the tickets to our members
and supporters, and schedule a night for our club to attend. The
club would earn 20% of the total amount of ticked meals purchased
that night. Mary Frey will look into dates for the event.
Horse Show Committee
Heather Anderson will get the list of show dates to both Mary
Glazier for the website, and Bill Reynolds for the catering. The
finished class lists will also be sent to Mary Glazier for the
website.
There are three other organizations, besides APHA, which have
outside competition programs. They are PQHA, AHA, and ApHC. Our
shows are eligible for points for all these organizations.
We appointed show secretaries for many of the early shows for
the season.
Heather Anderson and Steve Vrable will work on the advertisement
for the Paper Horse for March.
Next Meeting
The next board meeting of the Columbia Riding Club will be held
March 6, at 7pm, at Hot Z Pizza in Columbia.
Respectfully Submitted,
Heather Anderson
Secretary
