April 13, 2009 Minutes

A regular meeting of the Columbia Riding Club Board of Directors was called to order by President Steve Vrabel on Monday, April 13, 2009 at Hot Z's Pizza. Seven board members present included Anita Butler, Christina Fry, Dick Getz, Amanda Reed, Diane Reese, Brent Talbot, and Steve Vrabel There were also four other members present. Minutes from the March meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer's Report

Steve reported bills for electric and to the UPS store were paid. We also receive sponsors money and memberships. We also need to pay for the tractor repair and a few more bills. The report was approved.

Membership

We received 13 last month and 20 so far this month, for a total of 33. There was a discussion as to what prize to give for the drawing on April 15. It was decided to give a Visa gift card.

Buildings and Grounds

Steve thanked all who attended the various work days. Several things still need done. The electric is done for the concession trailer. The water situation is mostly under control, and the toilets are repaired. It was made easier to drain the water system at the end of the season. Anita volunteered to take care of the trash service. We also need to purchase several trash cans and take care of the roofing.

Ways and Means

Kathy Bowman has the insurance paper for the pony rides. The "Merchandiser" took pictures of Kathy with the mounted police. She has 20 stand holders signed up for the day. There are openings for the various clinics. There will be prizes given for various activities.

Horse Show Committee

The judges are hired, with most contracts returned. The book is updated. We ran a full page ad in both the "Paper Horse" and "Pennsylvania Equestrian" for May. We are in the calendar of events for both publications for the year. The rentals will have a check list that needs to be completed before they receive their deposit. Amanda passed out examples of various show awards. It was decided to have a cake walk at the April 25 show. Christina will bring the cake. She also reported on clinics planned. Amanda suggested we include a free class coupon in the "Paper Horse" for use at a Wednesday night show. It was decided to do a full page ad in the "Paper Horse" including the coupon. Montie Eagle volunteered to do a clinic for the club. Christina is looking into possible dates and will get back to her.
