August 10, 2009 Minutes

A regular meeting of the Columbia Riding Club Board of Directors was called to order by President Steve Vrabel on Monday, August 10, 2009 at 7:10 pm at the club. Eight board members present included Mark Anderson, Christina Fry, Dick Getz, Pat Hill, Amanda Reed, Diane Reese, Brent Talbot, and Steve Vrabel There were also four other members in attendance. Minutes from the July meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer's Report

Pat reported on the current balance

Membership

We currently have 90 members which includes four additional joining at the last show.

Buildings and Grounds

Steve reported the small stuff on the grounds is still not done. The jump box (oxer) still needs repaired or replaced. We purchased nine cones, eight risers and twelve landscape timbers that were a great asset at the shows. The West Hempfield Fire Department waters the rings prior to the shows. Chad Thoman mows, trims, and drags the rings in approximately nine hours. We will have to control parking at the Fall Festival. Pat suggested purchasing a suitcase-like table for the upper secretary stand. It was motioned and approved to have her do this.

Amanda reported we have an ad in "The Paper Horse" for August, and that is the final ad for 2009.

Horse Show Committee

Christina met with Mary Glazier after the August 5 show and sent e-mail to the members. The police lost one of their horses, Zeke, and retired one of their canines. We plan to honor both at the upcoming Fall Festival show. The last open ring night is scheduled August 27. After that we will do open rings on meeting nights only. It was also decided to purchase a set of four walkie-talkies. Terri Vrabel was appointed to do this. A show committee meeting was set for Thursday, August 20 at 6:30 at the club. They will be discussing the fall festival, and courses for the extreme trail. Amanda reported 98 entries in the Wednesday July 22 show. Wednesday August 5 was our second largest Wednesday show with 136 entries . The gaming show on that date was their largest of the year . Amanda also already purchased about half of the year end awards. Pat suggested having next year's SVRA show separate of another show.

Youth

Steve McFalls suggested having a driving clinic in 2010. Christina reported Meg Black and Montie Eagle are still scheduled for clinics August 29. Pat will open and close for the clinics.
